بنى‌آدم اعضای یک پیکرند

که در آفرینش ز یک گوهرند

چو عضوى به درد آورَد روزگار

دگر عضوها را نمانَد قرار

تو کز محنت دیگران بی‌غمی

نشاید که نامت نهند آدمی

Humans are the limbs of one body,

and are from the same essence in their creation.

When the conditions of the time hurt one of these parts,

other parts will suffer from discomfort/restlessness, as well.

If you are indifferent about the misery of others,

it is not deserving to call you a human being.

 

کسی خسبد آسوده در زیر گل

که خسبند از او مردم آسوده دل

Beneath the clay, sleep at the ease that one

By whom, men sleep tranquil at heart

 

نخواهی که باشی پراکنده دل

پراکندگان را ز خاطر مهل

Thou wishest not, that thou shouldst be distressed in heart?

Put not out of thy heart those distressed

 

به حال دل خستگان در نگر

که روزی تو دل خسته باشی مگر

Look into the state of the heart of those wearied;

For thy heart may, perhaps, one day (you) be broken.

 

درون فروماندگان شاد کن

ز روز فروماندگی یاد کن

Make the hearts; of those dejected, happy;

Remember the day of your helplessness

پدر مرده را سایه بر سر فکن

غبارش بیفشان و خارش بکن

Cast protection over the head of the orphans;

Scatter his dust (of affliction), and pluck out his thorn.

چوبینی یتیمی سرافکنده پیش

مده بوسه بر روی فرزند خویش

When thou sees an orphan, head lowered in front (from grier)

Give not a kiss to the face of thy own son.

به رحمت بکن  آبش از دیده پاک

به شفقت بیفشانش از چهره خاک

Keeps trembling, when the orphan weeps.

Pluck out, with kindness, the tear from his pure eye.
